If someone said there is an old bike over road and they will probably let you have it. I can almost guarantee it was a James or Fannyb, usually the one with a Villiers 9E engine.
All I wanted was 4strokes.
I had struggled with hard to start 2stokes and hated the things, but I was about 12 and hadn’t a clue about crank seals and the like.
I don’t know why I’m not getting notified when messages come in, and apologize for the delayed response. I wasn’t ignoring, you, I swear.
My experience with two-stroke engines was limited to chainsaws and generators. I rode OPs dirt bikes back in the day, but just brief spins; never long enough to even gas one up. And, as noted in my James article, the one two-stroke I’ve ever owned never saw a drop of petrol in the 25+ years that I owned her.
My understanding (based solely on book learnin’ and bench-racing with those who did ride two-strokes) is that a two-stroke can develop a better power curve for certain sporting applications like hillclimbs and timed trials. π€·π»ββοΈ At my advanced age, I’m not likely to explore those arenas for myself. I know from bitter experience that I am not the bulletproof thing I thought I was in younger years, that broken bones hurt like hell, and that healing takes a long, long time. I’ll leave those adventures to the younger and dumber amongst us, settle into the saddle of my geezer glide and get on down the highway! π
How different it was over here.
